We must look on the cross and decide...
The cross of Christ was an accursed thing. It was not a pretty sight. All crucifixions were horrible, but Christ's was truly horrifying.
On the cross, Christ bore our sins on his body and suffered the wrath of God the Father. No words can describe the exquisite agony, and we will never know what Christ had to suffer.
But christ suffered for a reason. And that reason is that we, being sinners and deserving of God's wrath, have a way of escaping that wrath and becoming "heirs of God and joint heirs with Jesus Christ. We can escape the sentence that has been pronounced on all those who do not know God.
But we must look to the cross and realise that Christ, in love, died for us. Only by realising our personal need of His salvation can we turn to Him, and know his saving grace in our lives.
Look to the cross my friend. Not to the wood - but to the work of the One who suffered there. And put your trust in Him with whom "there is no variableness, neither shadow of turning".
