Calvary was necessary for our salvation...
Calvary was a terrible place on the day Jesus died. It was a scene that displayed the worst of injustices and the depravity of men, in stark contrast to the love of Jesus who freely laid down His life. Those who stood around witnessed the death of the God-man - he who knew no sin and in Him there was no guile. He was the spotless Lamb of God, slaughtered for a world of lost sinners.
Calvary was for Jesus alone. It was one of the final fulfilments of God's plan. Not one of us, not one member of the human race, could be found worthy to take away the sins of the world. There is no Calvary for us, because Christ has borne the penalty for sin. We need not suffer the guaranteed fate of those who reject Him as their Saviour - an eternity spent in the horrors of hell.
Calvary was not the end of the story. Christ rose from the grave on the third day after His death and resumed His rightful seat at the right hand of God the Father. Death was defeated, the Devil and his plan to keep Jesus from fulfilling God's will was frustrated.
Now, the Bible urges us to turn and seek God, believe on His name, trust in His finished work, and ask for Him to occupy the throne of our hearts. Then we can know real peace, real joy, and assurance of sins forgiven.
